Position Announcement

Part Time Teaching Counselors

General Summary:

The Teaching Counselor is primarily responsible for teaching skills and behaviors to maximize independence in activities of daily living for a small caseload of persons who have severe developmental disabilities and other special needs. Other duties may include providing support to the Team Leader for the smooth operation of the home by performing tasks/duties as assigned (e.g., shopping, van maintenance, etc.). Documenting care provided, behavior management and teaching techniques implemented, timely completion of records, checklists, reports, graphs and schedules.

Qualifications:

  1. Minimum high school diploma and a combination of college-level education and/or related experience with persons who have severe disabilities or other special needs.

    • Preferred: related degree.

  2. Operation of a motor vehicle is required, which includes

    • proof of a valid drivers license,

    • an ability to maintain automobile liability insurance as required by state law in Kansas and/or Missouri, and

    • an ability to qualify as a driver under CLO insurance guidelines.

  3. Knowledge of and the ability to perform Mandt techniques.

  4. Knowledge of Teaching Family Model components and techniques.

  5. Ability to organize and handle several tasks simultaneously.
